Fall of Fort Anderson & Stamp Act Crises with Tours, Vignette, and More. Drop what you're doing and heed the call to arms! Brunswick Town/Ft. Anderson State Historic Site will re-introduce two historical time periods when it presents: "Wanted: Preparing for War: The 146th Anniversary of the Fall of Ft. Anderson and the 245th Anniversary of the Stamp Act Crisis." Open at 9am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.

Saturday & Sunday special guided tours of Battery B (normally closed to the public.- Tour Tickets, $5 for ages 12 & up. Saturday beginning at 9am & Sunday at 11am the Free Living history program will feature Civil War infantry and artillery demonstrations, sutlers(vendors), a blacksmith, and period photographer. Saturday, Gates Open at 6pm for Vignettes that recall the 1765-1766 Stamp Act Rebellion. A Saturday presentation by Dr. Chris Fonvielle on "Building Up for War: Constructing the Cape Fear Defenses." Sunday, Gene Oakley will present the special program "Engines of War" at 2:15p.m.

Learn about and explore the Battleship's 16-inch and 5-inch guns from the gun houses to the ammunition loading compartments; the 40mm and 20mm guns, and the weapons that they replaced. The finest guns are of little use without the means to direct their fire accurately at the target. Presenters will discuss the various types of fire control equipment and how main and secondary battery plotting rooms and the combat information center operated. Participants will enjoy a lively, engaging, in-depth program with presentation, hands-on experience, and serious exploration for adult learners. Adults only (ages 16 & up). Limited to 40 participants. Not appropriate for those who have difficulty climbing. Wear warm, comfortable, washable clothing, sturdy, rubber-soled shoes and bring a camera. Registration & payment due by February 17th.

Freedom Boat Club of Southport, NC is hosting a Chili Cook Off to benefit their Relay for Life Team in the Brunswick County Relay for Life. They will have a pro and amateur divisions that will be voted on by a panel of judges, along with people's choice awards. To be part of the pro division you must own a restaurant. All other will compete in the amateur division. The cost if $25 to enter a chili into the competition, and $5 for everyone else to come taste and vote for the best chili! Your $5 allows you to taste all the Chili!

Spring Workshop @ Franklin Square Gallery
|
In this 3-day workshop, Miriam Pinkerton will teach participants how to make and use encaustic, a unique paint made from beeswax, resin and color. It is the most durable of all artist's paints with exquisite visual properties, and it is stable from 35-degrees to 110-degrees F. Participants will learn to heat and apply beeswax, add colors and collage materials, transfers and incising, as well as the proper care of paintings made by this process. Deadline for registration is February 14th.
